Mosquito Abatement Field Technician

    Long-term, full-time, seasonal role lasting up to 9 months
    $17.50 per hour to start

Duties:

    Identify mosquito breeding sites and standing water sources suitable for larvicide treatment
    Inspect and monitor catch basins, storm drains, ponds, ditches, containers, and other water-holding areas for mosquito larvae
    Apply larvicides (e.g., Bti, methoprene, briquettes, granules, or liquids) in accordance with product labels and regulatory requirements
    Complete work orders by documenting larvicide applications, treatment locations, product usage, and environmental conditions
    Review chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) prior to mixing or application
    Mix and apply larvicides safely and accurately using proper calibration and measurement techniques
    Operate application equipment, backpack sprayers, spreaders, and surveillance tools to support mosquito control efforts
    Use mobile devices, hand-held computers, and GPS units for navigation, mapping, and treatment documentation
    Monitor treated areas to evaluate larvicide effectiveness and re-treat as necessary
    Perform routine maintenance and minor repair of application and surveillance equipment
    Properly store, transport, and dispose of pesticide containers and related materials in compliance with regulations
    Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, vehicles, and equipment
    Use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE)
    Navigate field environments, including uneven terrain, water edges, drainage systems, and confined access areas
    Communicate professionally with the public regarding mosquito prevention and larvicide treatments when necessary
    Safely operate county vehicles and equipment
    Perform related mosquito abatement duties and assist with special projects as assigned
    Other duties as assigned

 Requirements:

    Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
    Be drug-free.
    Ability to obtain required Pest Department licensing within one month of hire.
    Knowledge of basic mathematics for accurate mixing and application of pesticides.
    Ability to safely operate pest control equipment.
    Ability to read, understand, and follow chemical labels, SDS sheets, and written work orders.
    Ability to recognize pest infestations and assess treatment needs.
    Ability to use computers, mobile field devices, and GPS technology.
    Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public.
    Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively with a team.
    Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
    Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
    Ability to obtain ATV certification prior to operating ATV equipment, if required.
    Willingness to work in a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug testing.
    Ability to be cross-trained as needed.</sub>
