A Guest Services Specialist II creates positive and memorable guest experiences that reflect the library’s mission (We provide lifelong education and build a stronger community) and vision (We provide a welcoming and forward-thinking place where all residents can have educational, enlightening, and enjoyable experiences). Under the direction of the Library’s Guest Services Manager, a Guest Services Specialist II is responsible for specialized duties that support and further the library’s mission and vision.
Duties:
May oversee a special collection or service.
May be responsible for conducting outreach efforts.
May develop, prepare, and present cohesive and sustainable classes and events (either in-person, virtual, or recorded) that reflect community interests to residents who attend events at the Library and through outreach opportunities community-wide.
Assists in the training of new staff members.
Performs weekly cash reconciliation and bank deposit.
May oversee the library’s homebound delivery service.
Assumes additional department duties in the absence of the department supervisor, as assigned.
Assists every guest willingly and respectfully in accordance with the Library’s Guest Care Policy.
Demonstrates an applied understanding of Public Library service competencies.
Meets or exceeds Public Library Performance Standards.
Assists library guests with all borrowing functions and account issues.
Assists at all guest service stations, assists other staff with the development and execution of classes and events, and assists other departments when needed.
Successfully completes the delivery of library materials to guests through what may be non-traditional methods such as Curbside Pickup and Doorstep Delivery.
Assists guests with various library-related technologies, the use of library resources, and reader’s advisory.
Works with City departments and external agencies to provide enhanced services to library guests.
Works with fellow staff to promote the Library through various methods, such as library newsletters, email campaigns, video, and social media.
Utilizes existing, and incorporates emerging, technologies into library service.
Maintains awareness of the buildings’ condition and actively works to create a positive, clean, and welcoming atmosphere for guests.
Provides thorough guest service by referring complex issues to supervisor to ensure positive and memorable guest experiences.
Actively participates in training sessions that are beneficial to the performance of the job duties (though not specifically library-related).
Performs all essential shelving functions, as needed.
May assist other staff with the development and execution of classes and events.
Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers to enhance or promote library service to guests, as necessary.
Acts as liaison to groups and committees as designated or directed.
May prepare for production of, and execute printing of, guest 3D print requests, as necessary.
Maintains the library’s digital room booking calendar, as needed.
Maintains the library’s community art displays, as needed.
Serves as the supply order clerk for the Library, as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Strong guest service skills.
Ability to accurately assess situations and to be flexible when responding to others
Ability to work independently, efficiently, and effectively, completing assigned tasks
Ability to exercise independent judgment within City policy and guidelines
Ability to adapt to and use constantly changing technology in the performance of job duties
Ability to assist library guests and fellow library employees with new library-related technologies
Ability to operate office equipment and computer programs. Specific skill in use of MS Office Suite, particularly: Word, Outlook, and Excel, as well as department-specific software
Knowledge of basic principles of developing, preparing, and presenting classes and events for audiences of all ages
Demonstrated skills using oral and written communication in the performance of duties, including internal and public presentations
Basic knowledge of adult and children’s literature
Ability to learn, and accurately carry out, shelving tasks
Ability to make decisions under pressure, deal with the public in a manner that represents mature judgment, manage stress, and handle multiple priorities
Ability to apply tact and good judgment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, officials, and co-workers
Must be able to manage and move library items and equipment safely and efficiently without danger to self, others, or items
Standing and walking for the duration of the shift, regular lifting to 25 lbs.
Some local travel may be required
Minimum
High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) months prior experience working with the public.
Legally authorized to work in the US.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience of increasing responsibility within a public library setting
Prior experience developing classes or events for various age groups, preferred
