Our client, the County Mosquito Abatement Division, is seeking a dependable Mosquito Surveillance Technician to collect and identify mosquitoes and help protect residents from mosquito-borne diseases. This is a full-time seasonal position working through October, with paid training and licensing provided.
Pay and schedule: Starting at $17.50/hour. Tuesday–Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Flexible scheduling is available, with opportunities to earn additional hours by assisting other projects or teams. Employees dispatch from Meridian, Idaho.
What you’ll do:
Collect mosquito samples from traps at designated field locations
Use GPS and mobile technology to navigate to collection sites
Prepare mosquitoes for identification and disease testing
Accurately identify mosquito species
Operate and maintain surveillance and sampling equipment
Learn to identify mosquito life stages and breeding habitats
Support the collection, monitoring, and distribution of biological-control agents
Assist with special projects as assigned
Properly use and maintain required personal protective equipment
Perform other related duties as assigned
What you’ll need:
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Basic math skills
Ability to safely operate County vehicles and equipment
Ability to read and follow chemical labels, SDS information, and written work orders
Comfortable using computers, mobile field devices, and GPS technology
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public
Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively with a team
Ability to safely lift up to 30 pounds
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to pass a drug screening and participate in random testing for this safety-sensitive position
